Ants
The pharaoh ant is the most common in flats — tiny, about 2 mm. It nests in walls, under floors and in appliances; one colony can span several flats. Garden ants cause trouble in yards.
Why you don’t want these neighbours
- Spread germsThey walk through waste, then over food and dishes.
- Spoil foodEspecially sweets, grains and meat.
- SpreadColonies split and move into neighbouring flats.
- Harm gardensThey farm and guard aphids on trees.
Signs of a problem
The earlier the treatment, the easier the result.
What to know about the pest
These traits decide which control method will work.
- many queenslive in a pharaoh ant colony — it splits, so killing visible ants does not help.
- ~2 mm— the length of a house ant worker: it gets through any crack.
- trails— ants leave scent trails that lead the others to food.
- aphids— garden ants guard them for their sweet honeydew.
How to deal with it
Professional treatment plus prevention keeps results longer.
- 01Baits
Worker ants carry the product to the nest and feed the colony.
- 02Trails and nests
Skirting, cracks, areas around pipes and appliances.
- 03Yard
Nests near the house and trees with aphids.
Keep sweets and grains sealed, clear crumbs, seal cracks.
