Disinfection of premises: types, methods and how it works
How routine disinfection differs from outbreak disinfection, which methods are used and what the customer should do.
What disinfection is
Disinfection means destroying disease-causing microorganisms — bacteria, viruses, fungi and mould — on surfaces, objects and in the air. Its purpose is to break the chain of infection: from a contaminated surface to hands, and from hands to people.
Disinfection is not the same as cleaning. Cleaning removes visible dirt; disinfection deals with what you cannot see. The best result comes from both: clean first, then treat.
Types of disinfection
- Preventive (routine) — done regularly when there is no outbreak. Typical for catering, retail, medical and children’s facilities, dormitories, gyms, baths and pools.
- Outbreak disinfection — after an infectious disease is detected or by order of the sanitary service. It can be ongoing (while the source is still on site) or final (after the source has been removed).
- On request — after renovation or flooding, when moving into new premises, or when mould appears.
Methods and equipment
- Spraying and wet treatment — the product is applied to walls, floors, doors and equipment with a backpack sprayer. The main method for most premises.
- Hot fogging — a fine aerosol fills the space and reaches hard-to-access areas: basements, warehouses, service rooms.
- Chamber treatment — mattresses, pillows and blankets are treated in a disinfection chamber.
- Vehicle treatment — cabins, truck bodies, containers.
The product is chosen for the task: each has its own spectrum (bacteria, viruses, fungi), concentration and contact time. We use officially approved products strictly according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
How the work goes
- Request: type of premises, area, reason for treatment.
- Inspection or clarification, choice of product and method.
- Treatment at an agreed time — for businesses also in the evening or at weekends.
- An act of completed works stating the product, area and date; a VAT e-invoice for companies.
What the customer should do
- Remove food, dishes and personal items from surfaces to be treated.
- Provide access to all rooms, including storerooms.
- Make sure people and pets leave during treatment and ventilation.
- Afterwards, ventilate and wipe contact surfaces as the specialist advises.
