How to prepare your flat for cockroach and bed bug treatment
What to put away, what to cover and when to return — a checklist before the visit.
Why preparation matters
The result depends on preparation: the product must reach insect hiding places, while food and personal items must stay clean. Good preparation saves the specialist’s time and lowers the risk of a repeat visit.
Kitchen and bathroom
- Put food, dishes and household chemicals in closed cupboards or sealed bags.
- Clear access to skirting boards, pipes and the space behind the stove and fridge.
- Take out the rubbish.
Bedroom and living rooms
- For bed bug treatment, strip the bedding and seal it in bags — it will need a hot wash.
- Move beds and sofas away from the walls and empty wardrobes near the sleeping area.
- Put away or cover personal items, clothes and children’s toys with plastic sheeting.
Children, pets, aquariums
- People and pets must leave the flat during treatment and ventilation.
- Cover aquariums tightly; the specialist will advise what to do with the air pump.
- Take birds and caged rodents out of the flat.
After treatment
- Don’t return earlier than the specialist said.
- Ventilate the rooms.
- Wipe surfaces that food and hands touch: tables, handles, shelves.
- Don’t wash skirting and treated areas for as many days as the specialist advised — the product needs time to work.
- If insects reappear, let us know: a scheduled repeat treatment may be needed.
